From May 27–29, I visited my alma mater, the International University of Japan (IUJ) in Niigata. I’m grateful to my fellow alumna who invited me to deliver a lecture for IUJ’s Research Institute Seminar Series. It was a nostalgic visit to the familiar places of the university, where I spent two years completing my master’s degree in International Relations. I also get to watch the annual multicultural festival, which features traditional performances and dishes from different countries. True to its slogan, IUJ is indeed where the world gather. The Gourmet Marathon was also happening that weekend at Yaironomori Park near the campus.

It was an enjoyable time meeting with my former professors and schoolmates who made my academic experience at IUJ meaningful and memorable. The Filipino community hosted an informal talk and lunch where students and professors alike enjoyed Filipino dishes. Although it was a long, 6-hour shinkansen trip from Hiroshima to Niigata, it was a combined weekend getaway/work trip I’d be happy to do again soon.
